Everyone's favorite vegan band has a new and improved website to showcase their brilliance. I gotta have one of those new t-shirts. And buy their new album coming out soon. Rules...
We have 3, count 'em, THREE Peter Young support shirts here for sale. $10 cash money. A medium and 2 larges, I think. A black one, a grey one, and a green one.

Look what Denver gone and got itself. Congrats Mike and Dan.
Nice shirt company by a customer of ours.
New sticker, new sticker!
"We're simply too fragmented to ever be effective. Bow hunters are constantly at odds with gun hunters, and always seem to be bickering within their own ranks. Waterfowlers who hunt swamps battle their brethren who prefer big water for hunting dates — and neither has respect for deer hunters. Fly fishers and meat anglers don't get along — and don't mention bass fishermen to either of them. Skeet shooters don't deal with trapshooters and both are looked down upon by the sporting clays crowd."

Webly is nice and has a good idea. Maybe we could also get a ton of people to go down to Schumacher's before and pitch in. Could be a good chance for new people to get involved? Maybe?
"SoleCina converts a blend of vegetable and meat protein into a meat substitute or hybrid with the consistency of cooked, whole-muscle meat"
WBC (godhatesfags.com) are to picket the funeral for Army Spc. Robert L. Jones - at 10:15 AM., Thursday, June 29 - at New Hope Community Church, 11731 S.E. Stevens Rd., Clackamas, Oregon.
The WBC/Fred Phelps are the AWFUL people who have been protesting the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq. They also protest at high profile homosexual funerals. They claim that god is killing soldiers because this country is too lenient on gays and promotes a homosexual lifestyle.
Whether we believe in the war or not, we can all agree that these people are fucked up, so let's stand between them and the family so they can grieve in some sort of peace.
We're going to carpool over there. If anyone needs a ride or wants to give rides, show up at the store at tomorrow at 9:30am.

yeah. then someone will get hurt, and they'll end up shooting the cheetah. oh, why is this world full of idiots?
"Also up for consideration in the House this week is the
Freedom to Display the Flag Act, which would bar condominiums or other homeowner associations from restricting the size or placement of residents' flags. It's expected to pass today."
No commentary needed.
"Have fun learning about animal care and specific animals at the Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary by joining us for summer camp. Children 9-13 will learn more about the farm and basic care for animals while enjoying a morning or afternoon with us for $20.
Animal experts and Oregon certified teachers designed the program to make it both educational and fun. We have planned a scavenger hunt, painting tiles for farm decorations, playing games, feeding the animals treats, and loads of entertainment.
Sign up now to come have fun at the Farm. Preregistration before July 15 is required, and there is limited enrollment so register early.
For more information, please call 503-581-0122 or visit our website at www.lighthousefarmsanctuary.org for a registration form."

"'There were little children from Years 1, 2 and 3 that were crying their hearts out."
*No, we don't really think children are idiots, and yes, we get why they might be crying. We just think it's fun to call children idiots on the internets. It just feels like the right thing to do. And mature, don't forget that, it feels like the mature thing to do. You are now free to write us angry emails.
So, we're gonna be working on this event for August 19th. Should be cool.
There will be this nice instrumental band from Canada playing called
Fractal Pattern. And after they play, we'll be screening "Flight from Death" and one of the filmmakers, Greg Bennick, will be around to chat about. It'll be a benefit, probably for
Peter Young. Be prepared.
Not the biggest fan of Peter Singer, but this is a pretty interesting read. He makes some good points on buying local produce or whatever.
Finally getting around to watching this. Pretty crazy stuff. And pretty damned believable. But, I dunno, it's hard to let yourself believe it. Like, if you do, what doest that mean? Uggh, makes your head spin. Give yourself some time and watch.
"On June 11, one of Fuller's assistants found that the locks to all the doors at Soba and Casbah, two Shadyside restaurants owned by big Burrito Restaurant Group, were super-glued shut, and the word 'quack' was scrawled on the buildings."

Found the dog's home.
So, Chris D. went back to the intersection he found her and there was a new flyer saying "Missing. 2 pit bulls. One black and white. One brown and white." We called, and the girl described her collar. Camo colored. Wonder where the other missing dog went because Chris said she was all by herself and no other dog in sight when he found her. So sad. Hopefully someone nice took her in and will see the flyer.
If you're not going to microchip your pet, at least get a tag with a phone number on it! Not so hard to do, right? This is the 8th or 9th lost dog we've taken care of since we moved here. Makes us want to punch people in the stomachs.
We're really sad to see her go, she's so sweet.
So, our friend Chris found a great female pitbull this morning out in the middle of Powell Blvd and 50th. Called us, he thought it'd be funny to wake us up and make us take care of her. (just kidding Chris, I know, I know, you had to go to "work", blah, blah....)
She's super sweet and friendly, no tags of course. Hanging out at our store for now. Can't bring her home since we're already dog sitting for some other friends and their dog isn't all that great with others, and we're stil not sure if she's good with other dogs (or cats), too, so...
Anybody out there interested?
We're gonna flyer around the area, and see if anyone claims her in the next couple of days. Who knows?
Will keep you posted.

Crap, stuck at work. We hope you're not reading this now and out having fun somewhere.
Just got in the new line of Tofurky franks. Can't wait to try them out. Chipotle franks? Damn.

Added a few new pics, finally.
"It’s hoped the money raised will go to a animal sanctuary such as Hillside where they can save the life of a dairy cow (who typically have a working life of only 2-5 years) or a male calf destined for the veal crates of Europe or catfood."
Here's a flyer you can send around for this weekend. Thanks buddies.

Thanks to Field Roast for donating a pile of sausages for Sunday's BBQ/Potluck and MDC show thingy. What are you bringing? That shit better be good. Make sure you bring some friends and make sure they bring stuff too. And if you have a spare picnic kinda table or paper plates or whatever....

Yo yo yo. Pay attention:
Sunday the 25th of June at 1pm-ish at Food Fight.
Acoustic set of MDC songs featuring Dave (Dave's Killer Bread) on guitar!
Vegan potluck/cookout thing.
Bring yourself and food to share.
It will be fucking rad and you'll be bummed if you miss it.
Tell your friends as long as they aren't lame. And BRING SOME FOOD and your manners.
xoxo
The Management
So, yeah, the price is reduced, help get rid of these, they're nice. Pass it 'round, pleae.
Thanks Danielle for the heads up on this. Sucks you had to learn the hard way. This is the reason more actual vegans/vegetarians need to open restaurants!
This is what Danielle wrote:
"I didn't know where else to post this so I'll do it here. This weekend I went to Sweet Basil, a Thia restaurant on NE Broadway for some take-out. They advertise special vegan sauces if you want them so you'd think they knew what vegan meant. You would be wrong. We orded a bunch of to-go food, including a special curry, all VEGAN of course (we said that and we said the typical no-fish sauce right?) A kid brought us the order and told us he noticed everything on the ticket said "VEGAN" but the only curry they can actually make vegan is the yellow one because all the others have shrimp paste in them! He said the ingredients are clearly on all the other curries in the kitchen (I guess they aren't fresh then...?) We told him we'd like the vegan one instead and that we appreciated him telling us, also if he could tell the kitchen that shrimp paste is not vegan! I think I'm going to call and talk with the manager about it as well. Just a warning for anyone who goes there, also at other Thai restaurants, maybe add "shrimp paste" to your list of things you ask about. Sorry thi is so long.
whoa, and sorry about all the typos!"

Uh oh. I wonder if this is being tested to be used for the produce in grocery stores, canned vegetables, or in restaurants or what. Fuckin' A.
Thursday, June 15, 2006
Holy crap. It's about time. Now if they get rid of the
veal....
"'Tell all those assholes in D.C. to get us the f--- out of here. This is bullshit,' Jones said, reading from the e-mail, but choosing not to pronounce the f-word in full. 'Either that or tell them to tell Bush to send over the twins. They can bunk with me. That would be useful.'"
"Before long, Eleanor realizes that her boss, Honor Vine, the president of People Against Animal Cruelty, is a burned out, aging tyrant stuck in a bygone era of the movement."
New shirt.
So, we just made up a very small batch of these shirts. They make no sense, but, for some reason, we like them. The design is kinda bleached out of the shirt, it's neat. If you want one, come in the store or paypal us $12 + $4.05 postage and specify your American Apparel unisex size.
So, the folks doing the
SHAC benefit screening thing on Saturday are coming in a van that runs on waste vegetable oil. Anybody have any contacts or know anyone else doing this kind of thing so they can get some free van juice? Please get in touch.

So, check the bottom of our "About" page. Thanks to
ByCycle.org for the code and the service.
This guy rules. He'd make an excellent spokesman for the animal rights movement. Let's fly him out to Portland in a white helicopter.

Help us be evil viral marketeers. If you wish.
Buy these now! It rules, and the $$$ is sorely needed. Thanks Herbivore.
PS. It looks like roughly $28 from each pack will go towards the SHAC fund, so, this could add up to a lot.
So, looks like the SHAC7 sentencing has been pushed back again, this time to September 12th. That's some good news at least, right? Yay?
How about everybody reading this, print out a stack of
these flyers and put 'em around your workplace, or school, or place of worship? Thanks.
PETA was right,
"Fishing Hurts."

Hey everybody. This nice person named Amanda is starting up a business selling home-made vegan meals, frozen, for you to warm up on those lazy days we all have. And you can go taste her stuff and buy it if you RSVP to her soon.
The next tasting party is Sun. June 18th (Father's Day) at 6pm. It will be at 3323 SE 11th Ave, just south of Powell.
We went to one a few days ago and it was great.
Email Amanda with your RSVP and tell her Food Fight sent you. And, don't just be a mooch, bring some $$$ to spend, you'll be happy.
If anybody is heading out to Proper Eats earlier in the evening tomorrow, and can pick up SHAC7 fliers to leave there, that would be awesome. We can't get there till like 8:30 so....
Help out our cool local farm sanctuary by buying something from their CafePress shop.
"The Animal Enterprise Protection Act is a clear violation of the First Amendment, as it makes certain types of political speech illegal. Three of the SHAC7 defendants were found guilty only of conspiracy, a charge that is rarely prosecuted without a substantive offense connected to it."

So, yeah, a reminder about Tuesday night. Proper Eats in St. Johns (8638 N. Lombard ave, (503) 445-2007) is gonna have a special Josh Harper benefit plate for $10, and $5 will go to Josh's appeals fund. Should be available from 5-10 in the pm. What's the food? Here's what Piper says:
"i plan on the meal being: cornmeal encrusted tempeh with a garlic-herb aioli, steamed veggies tossed in a miso-tahini spread, wild rice and cabbage pilaf and
chickpeas...looking forward to this event very much"
Also "... we have a tv and dvd player...he is still showing two short films on peak
oil stuff beginning at 7"
So, yeah, come and hang out.

Proper Eats in St. Johns is gonna have a Josh Harper (SHAC7) benefit plate from 5-10pm, Tuesday, the 13th. I think it's gonna be $10 a plate, with $5 going to Josh. No details yet, but probably tomorrow. Start getting people together, it'll be good. We think they're gonna have a movie night going on too at around 8pm, but we could be wrong. Thanks Piper and James.
Some good news for a change.

Look who is on the PETA2 blog, just look.
"dealing an embarrassing defeat to President Bush"
YES!

So, in case you've been hankering for Sweetpea cheesecake lately, we finally got a lot in! 3 flavors in fact. Oh wait, we're almost out of the turtle flavor one. But we have brownie chunk and key lime, yowza. And we have lots of cupcakes in, too. Yo.
Great short film put together by
Tim and Tim in Florida about the SHAC7 and HLS.
Still don't understand why we're so pissed about the trial and HLS? Maybe watching this will help you understand.
This contains some graphic footage, please make yourself watch it. Get as angry as you should be.
Glorious! A day of Glory!
Thanks Karstan. The UK version of Borat hanging out with hunters. WHEEE!
"You've got no bloody brains, piss off!"
Monday, June 05, 2006
Holy sweet fat Jesus. Borat is a hero, a true hero. Just some more proof of the overwhelming turd-ity of hunters.
Nougat bites to the big spenders!
The next five people who come in and spend $50 or over get a free bag of nougat bites. It's about equal to 3 medium-sized nougat bars, a retail value of $5.25! Holy crap!
This kind of stuff drives me crazy. But, man, after reading that post from "Ozette" I wanted to be all... BURN!!! IN YOUR FACE! HI-5 OZETTE!
Holy shit. From the fois gras poll we posted earlier, I decided to click on the "Post Thoughts" link. I wish I hadn't. Man, there are some scary, insane people out there.

Just bought our 2 tickets to go see Gorilla Biscuits in SF on Aug 17th? Anybody out there in SF wanna meet up?
New issue of Herbivore officially up for sale online and in the store. Wahoo.
Have we mentioned today how much we fucking hate Bush? Well, not hate, that might be illegal. But, we strongly disapprove of him. And will decline a handshake from him if ever offered one.
Just got some Turtle Cheesecake and raspberry-filled chocolate cake slices.
A chance to learn some stuff and throw some money in a good direction.
Vote again. More poll for you.
A poll, vote real quick like.

Friday, June 02, 2006
SF beat us, yes, but we're cheaper, so... yeah.
Thursday, June 01, 2006
Not sure if this guy is vegan or not, probably not, but... damn, we want to sponsor him. We need a vegan Ulitmate Fighing Champion!
Give a dollar, take a button.
Hi. We still have a bunch of Let Live and "I Love SHAC" buttons leftover, if you wanna come by and put a buck in Josh's donation box, then take a button. That'd be cool.
"The former frontman of The Smiths warned laboratory workers 'we will get you' during a concert in the city to promote his new album."
Congrats to the
San Diego Animal Advocates for getting this on TV. This kind of thing needs to happen more often.
For the record, Food Fight would like to say, rodeo fans and participants are turds and it's another shitty
"tradition" that needs to die.
6 spots down, vote for our great customer Njeri's short film, Animal Liberation. Thanks, maybe she'll order some more stuff from us.
Drizzly weather, angry music, and then we became MySpace buddies with "Films 4 Animals" and watched the video on their page. Time to start drinking.
