Another cool thing coming up for your calendar is the rock show here on the 15th. Bow + Arrow are nice folk. They even wrote a song about
Josh Harper. So come hang out at 7pm on Friday the 15th. It'll be free and fun. Also playing will be
Devoirs who sound nice.
Next benefit movie night will be "Big Trouble in Little China" @
The Artistery on June 10th at 8pm. Mark those calendars. Herbivore Magazine folks will be running the show since we'll be out of town, so make it nice for 'em and show up. $3 goes to the
SHAC7 Commissary Fund. Pretty sure there will be food for sale too.
This should be great.

"The estimated 70 to 100
healthy beagles were among many regular - and perfectly legal - trans-Atlantic shipments by Air Canada of dogs destined for medical experiments."
We got
Kris's new cookbook in. Come support a local vegan baker with skills.
Grand opening on May 28th! Road Trip!

We're taking the day off Monday, in rememberance of... ughh... something. The Bill of Rights? Clean air? Rotary phones?
And now... sunscreen for you to buy and rub on your hairy back and arms.
Some new not-exactly-coffee stuff from Poland now for sale in our stupid online store.
PB Truffles now online and rad.
Hey you! Look at this sticker!
Bring some food and come hang out at the store today at 1pm. If you're feeling like it.
Anybody going down to this? Have room for 1 or 2 of us? Maybe?
"'It feels really good,' Jamison said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. 'It's a good accomplishment. I probably won't ever kill anything else that big.'"

Sulphur Southwest Daily News - Sports: "LSU officials did not comment specifically on Wathne's letter Monday but offered several general responses, noting that many wildlife experts believe the Bengal tiger population in the wild is about 500 or fewer and may not be sustainable. Also, a tiger in captivity is not pursued by poachers."
"But I know that they will serve only vegan foods, no sodas, and food that many in the larger group don't necessarily enjoy, along with lots of alcohol, which is amusing given their health concerns. They will not allow anything other than vegan foods in their home, which is their right.
There is a feeling among the workers that these two are incredibly rude and controlling."

"'This will spare some chimpanzees a life of up to 60 years in a laboratory. While it doesn't help chimpanzees already living in laboratories, it is a monumental decision,' Conlee added. 'Our ultimate goal is to put an end (to) the use of chimpanzees in research and retire those chimpanzees to permanent and appropriate sanctuary.'"
Hopefully this is as good as it sounds and it doesn't just mean they will be buying chimps elsewhere instead of breeding its own.
Back in stock. New color. We shit you negative.
Your parents say hi, they just bought you a load of stuff.
"The opinion by Judge Ann Aiken in Eugene, Ore., goes step by step through a variety of arguments used by defense attorneys against the terrorism enhancement, and generally dismisses them. In taking such a strict, methodical approach to the enhancement, though, she misses the forest for the trees (or, more to the point, misses the forest for the logging company’s bulldozers)."
New issue of Bite Back just came in.
If that isn't your thing, you could always just come get some new Peanut Butter Truffles. Or some Good Karma Coconut Mango rice-cream. Or you could just come stare at our broken down dessert cooler.
Check it out. Today is "call in" day to Six Flags. Details down the page a bit.
"A federal judge on Tuesday declined to put restrictions on a throng of anti-fur protesters who demonstrate weekly outside a Portland fur salon."

If you're still eating rennet-filled cheese, maybe this will make you make you stop.

Damn Portland. You folks know how to empty your pockets.
So, for the SHAC7 Benefit stuff:
Rummage Sale: $1425
Movie Night: $236
Donation Jar: $158
Total Heading to the commissary fund: $1820
Thanks to everybody who helped out, it's nice to be part of a community that is as rad as this one is. Lauren, Elise, Crystal (for organizing the sale) and all the other folks who hung around throughout the day and pitched in or donated stuff for the sale, you know who you are. High-5.
"The final similarity is that the bottom line is corporate profit. The industries targeted by animal activists are wealthy, influential, and, apparently, very vulnerable. Take, for instance, Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS), a major contract animal testing laboratory based in New Jersey and targeted by animal rights groups like SHAC USA after undercover exposes showed a worker punching four-month-old puppies in the face. Focused protest pressure in the U.S. and abroad has left HLS $100 million in debt, kicked off of every stock exchange in the world, and forced to sell all of its property just to stay afloat. Major pharmaceutical companies like Roche, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, and others have been targeted by activists for contracting experiments at Hunting- don; many have responded by cutting their financial support for HLS. "
Here's some photos of the Sugar Crash benefit that was put on for Josh Harper in Seattle. Sounds like they pulled in just over $600. Pretty bad-assed. Thanks Katrina and the rest for making it happen in Seattle.

2 segments on the vegan marshmallow scandal on the YouTube.
"As you may or may not know, our building* has been bought by NorthRim Development Company for $1.8 million. Our lease is up November 15, and at this time NorthRim will be renovating the building and raising our rent, possibly doubling it."
Apparently if they get enough money together (pronto) Air America might get a vegan radio show?
"Radical animal-rights activists are targeting an evening gala during Boston’s biotech convention, promising to “put a little damper” on festivities, according to chilling Internet chatter that also refers to biotech executives as “corporate scum” dealing in “blood money.” "

Dang, we'd be cool with one of these.
Click the link and print out a $1 coupon for VegFest on the 12th.
Anybody out there have access to free color copies? We'd just like maybe 30 more copies of the Raising Arizona flyer. Holla back if you can help and we'll get you the file.
"Rod Coronado is a celebrity ex-convict in the underground world of environmental and animal rights radicals who advocate burning construction sites and research labs. In 2003, just after giving a speech in San Diego in which he called fire a “cleansing force” and defended its use in strategic property destruction, a woman asked him a question."
Anybody out there reading this have any leads on a job in LA? We have a friend in need down there who could really use some help. Email us if you know of any hot tips and we'll put you in touch.
Another fresh batch of the buns hath arrived.
"'It must have taken at least an hour or two for someone to do that, the way they outlined the lettering,' said Dean Jennings marketing director for the Oregon Beef Council. He said it was the first defacing of one the tongue-in-cheek ads developed for cattle farmers nationally by the Leo Burnett agency."
and:
"Jennings said the beef council routinely prints several extra billboard ads to allow for weathering, and he has asked Clear Channel to place one at another location "instead of just upping the ante at this one."

We have flyers for "Raising Arizona" (May 13th) and "The Witness" (May 17th) if anybody can help post them around town. Thanks dudes and dudettes.
"People have eaten millions of chickens that were given feed tainted with recalled pet food, federal officials said Tuesday, though they said the threat to human health is minimal."
Junior's Vegan Family Dinner this Friday! Keep it alive.
"Hello everyone. Okay...so selling tickets ahead of time has not
been a very successful endeavor. We initially decided to do it this
way because we lost money on the last dinner. Folks who had made
reservations did not show up. Given these two bits of information, I
would like to invite you all to make reservations, once again, via
email. Please, if you cannot come, go ahead and give Junior's a call
on Friday at 503-467-4971, I am there from 8am until 10:30 pm that
day. There are usually many people who want to come at the last
minute, and if you let us know we can accommodate everyone more
efficiently. I apologize for the confusion; I am merely trying to
keep this event alive without squashing my little breakfast restaurant
in the process. Go ahead and shoot me an email back if you can come
this Friday at 7:30 PM sharp. Four courses of fancy vegan food,
including dessert for $25 per person not including beer, wine or
gratuity.
Thank you for your understanding, Audra"

Found this on
VeganPorn. Poor Ming. She's a nice lady who got shafted. Hopefully the entire segment will show up online soon.
A good read to re-learn some science on the whole protein thing.
This is awesome.
Ooops. I mean...
This sickens me. Why won't these "Grannies" value the property rights of The Oregonian and the rights of it's readers to stay ignorant. Damn vandals. What if somebody has to explain "collateral damage" to their kid? We think maybe
Schumacher's should sue the Grannies too. SUE EVERYBODY!!!
More on the UK stuff:
"Dave Calendar, of Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre in Ince Blundell, Merseyside, said some of his staff were injured by police during the raid."
Oh geez. This is shitty.
"'Recent efforts of the police, government and judiciary have resulted in a significant decline in the incidence of animal rights extremism and are much welcomed by the UK's bioscience community.'"
