Back in stock, just in time for you to order for Halloween! Oh shit, that's today... nevermind.
Ok, call off the protests. You win. KFC is now going to be health food. Congratulations!
The chickens are now totally stoked.
Hey, Saturday Nov. 11th at 4pm the Herbivore store (5519 NE 30th Ave.), Jennifer McCann, of the blog "Vegan Lunch Box", will be signing copies of her new cookbook aptly titled "Vegan Lunch Box." Save that date, yo.
"Awareness can be tested by studying whether the animal recognizes itself in a mirror. Only humans, apes and, more recently, dolphins, have been shown to recognize that the image in the mirror is of themselves.
Now, in The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers report that an Asian elephant has passed the mirror self-recognition test."
Look at what we just ordered. If we can't sell enough extra frozen crap to pay for it and go out of business... blame
Lisa.

Happy holidays! Our friend John went to China. He took a picture of this sign.
We have 1 more 13x20 color poster left for Earthlings. It should get up somewhere today if possible. Anybody have a good spot for it? Wanna come get it?
So, if you're bored Sunday morning, we gotta move. Picking up the truck at 9am, so, if'n you're bored and want to show up and lift some stuff into and out of a truck.... I'm just saying. Maybe holla at us. Shouldn't take long and maybe we'll make it
worth your while....

I knew this would happen. Forgot the time change and came to work an hour early. "Hello YouTube? I'm Dummy, let's hang out a while."
Saturday, October 28, 2006
"The ads feature colour photographs of freshly cooked pork dishes with headlines such as Traumatised Suckling Piglet with Severed Tail accompanying text detailing how week-old piglets have their tails snipped and their eye teeth removed with clippers without any pain relief."

Our friend, Lauren, has some nice used costumes she wants to donate to sell to benefit the SHAC7's commissary fund, so if you still need a costume, please come here and get them. These clothes weren't cheap, so the prices are fair. But if it's getting closer to Halloween, the prices may get flexible. Also, Lauren said if you wanted to return any costumes after Halloween, she'd refund $10 out of her own pocket and donate it.

Nice song, no? I wish there wasn't a video for it though. Videos sometimes make me hate bands. Although this isn't that bad. It could be worse,
right?
"Bush briefly brought up the topic, unprompted, while raising money here for a Republican congressional candidate, a day after the New Jersey Supreme Court decided that same-sex couples must be given the same rights as married people."
Just in case you needed reminding that George W Bush is a piece of human garbage.
And in other turdy news....
So, we have a handful of big color posters for the "Earthlings" screening here. And some handbills and stuff for the "Behind the Mask" screening too.
If you have a good spot in your neighborhood, please come grab one and hang it up. Or if you want us to email you the file for you to print out, just ask. Please help spread the word on these. It makes a difference.
Also, if you've posted some somewhere, please let us know where. thanks.

"“The recyclers will buy it because they love this kind of agriculture,” Mr. Jones said. “The foodies will buy it because they love the taste.”"
Geez this is depressing.
"Recyclers" and "foodies" can suck it.
"Limbaugh told his listeners on Monday that “he is exaggerating the effects of the disease ... Either he didn’t take his medication or he’s acting.”"
"...the leading terrorist group in this country right now is the Rebuplican Party."
Mark Gonzales is kinda whacky, huh?
can you tell we're frustrated with our new apartment search?
(thanks al and karen)

Cute bag alert! Made of 100% recycled plastic soda bottles. We just made your holiday shopping easier. You are welcome.
So, if you can lend a hand, pretty please print out some of
these flyers and post them around. Or you could print
these handbills. That'd be rad of you.
Check it. Any ideas for these folks?

Just a reminder to plan ahead. Take the day off or work and plan to hit the streets. Here's a note from IDA:
"Mark your calendar for the annual Fur Free Friday march! Starting (and ending) at Schumacher Furs, IDA will host a peaceful, police-escorted anti-fur march in the streets of downtown Portland, which will pass all the downtown stores that sell fur.
This Fur Free Friday marks the one-year anniversary of highly publicized, weekly demonstrations outside the Schumacher Fur Store.
What: Fur Free Friday march
When: Friday, November 24th - meet at 11:30 am - March begins promptly at noon
Where: Corner of SW 9th and SW Morrison, downtown Portland
After the march, activists can join IDA in a Fur-Free Party on the sidewalk outside Schumachers--complete with vegan cake--to celebrate this hugely successful, ongoing anti-fur campaign.
And then come back to Schumachers, 811 SW Morrison, every Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. for our weekly outreach!
For more information contact the NW IDA office at 503-249-9996 or email connie@idausa.org. Also pick up a copy of the latest issue of Herbivore Magazine (www.herbivoremagazine.com) to read "Those Meddling Kids: Portland activists give furrier the what for" by IDA's Northwest Coordinator Matt Rossell, who once worked undercover at an Oregon fur farm."
So, we need your help. We want to fill the theatre up. An we want it full of people who NEED to see this kind of thing. Your meat eating "progressive" friends. Lazy vegetarians who need a kick in the pants. You know you know people to bring. There should be a pretty good discussion after the movie too, so... yeah. Please please spread the word about this. Thanks.
"Northwest VEG is sponsoring a panel discussion on food certification programs this Wednesday, Oct 25, 7 pm at the First Congregational Church, 1124 SW Park Avenue, downtown Portland. We will have representatives from Oregon Tilth Certified Organic, Food Alliance, and Salmon Safe (which certifies farming practices that protect rivers)."

Just wanted to say thanks to the few of you who showed up for benefit movie night last night. And thanks to The Artistery for hosting it and not charging us the full amount. Managed to raise $110 for the SHAC7 commissary fund.
And, in other SHAC7 news, we've received word that they will be having to turn themselves in on November 16th to wherever they are going. Josh is going to Sheridan, OR, not sure about everybody else. And in a major bit of shitty news, it looks like they'll all be going to a medium security facility, instead of the minimum or low security as everyone had expected. That "terrorism" labels works wonders. Now they'll have to be in with violent offenders and have far more restrictions on their lives and visitation priveledges.
Have you written a letter yet? Made a donation? Hmmm?
Friday, October 20, 2006
Don't forget benefit movie night tomorrow night at the Artistery. 8pm. $3. And they even have chairs now!
"The study also found that 40 percent of vegan dieters who ate a diet of about 75 percent carbohydrates in the diet were able to get off their medications, and the average person lost 14 pounds.
Those on the standard diabetes diet, which is only about half carbohydrate, lost only about seven pounds and only about 1 in 4 reduced diabetes medications."

Just heard from Piper at
Proper Eats. They're gonna be kicking in as co-sponsors for our "Earthlings" screening, and also doing one of their own at their place on Halloween. There is also going to be a screening at PSU on November 8th. So, you have plenty of chances to catch it and want to kill yourself.
So, far, we're also getting sponsorship help from
Veganopolis, Progressive Counselling, and
Sweetpea. And that rules. Thanks everybody.
"A friend sent me to your website for Halloween candy that doesn’t contain soy, corn, milk and other ingredients that my son is allergic to, however, I was extremely disappointed with your product descriptions!! Like the one for lollipops, “if you don’t like them you are a dick” and the fruit snacks that are Halloween themed, “damned cool”,
how inappropriate are these statements in an advertisement! I may have been interested in purchasing these items til I read your descriptions, your company is not one I would support or promote to other friends of mine! I felt you needed to know that those “little” things still matter to consumers and are important enough to some, that it affects your sales!
Just sending out some props for hosting my birthday party / SHAC7 letter writing party thing. And thanks to them for donating $212 to the SHAC7 comissary out of the nights sales.

from the SHAC7 support team:
"Even if you have already written Andy, please write again! He won't be able buy stamps from commissary and write folks back until next week, but really wants to keep hearing from folks. He's been able to call some friends and family and has expressed he's doing okay, and the thing he really looks forward to is mail. So please write him now and often! Even if you don't know Andy, introduce yourself, tell him about you, your city, your favorite places, what you do, etc.

Cat food?
Anybody have any spare Evolution cat food to spare? We have a friend who is out and needs some. She'll buy some off you if you can spare it. Get in touch please.
Emiko asking for help...
so, i was wondering if any of you might be into DV filmmaking or video work because i'm in this documentary filmmaking class right now, and wanted to ask if anyone has any equipment you wouldn't mind a very responsible person like myself borrowing for a little while.
i guess the main things i need are any external mics for interviewing people and any pointers on easy/cheap lighting equipment/tricks. i have a camera, tripod, and editing software on our computer. that's about it.
i'm taking an extra two day class in the middle of it to learn final cut pro, and i'm confidant i'll pick it up okay, but i'm totally ignorant about the whole process, and it looks like the documentary class is too fast to really get into everything by the time we need to actually start filming and stuff, so if there are any pointers you can tell me, it will be very appreciated.
thanks for listening everybody.
Back in stock. We sold out in like a week last time, so get them while they're around.

Something to look forward to in November that doesn't involve graphic footage of animal abuse.
Another thing going down. A screening of "Behind the Mask" at the Hollywood Theatre on November 16th @ 7pm. $5 a head. The director will be on hand for a discussion/Q&A after the film. Should be bad assed.
Ok, it's officially going down. We (and other sponsors) are gonna be renting out the Hollywood Theatre for a giant free screening of Earthlings on November 2nd @ 7pm.
What you'll need to do. Bring people. Bring meat eaters. Bring "progressives" that "love vegetables." Bring members of the Salmon Nation. Not out to preach to the converted.
This film is fairly hardcore, so kids might not be a good idea, they might get wrecked.
So... street team assemble (soon.) You'll need to do some flyering and posting and spreading the word. We'll put out the call soon, just stay tuned.
"'We're glad they have finally released the documents,' Rossell said, 'but the public has been kept in the dark for a really long time.'"
Good job, good job.
He will F you up.
A word of warning before messing with us. Ago will fuck you up. This goes to whoever tagged our sign last night. And it goes to the "animal rights activist" who felt the need to put a "being boiled hurts" PETA sticker on our sign, which is a pain in the ass to get off without scratching up the vinyl.
What an awesome band this is! And here is
their MySpace page to tell them how much they rock!
""Nothing separates America more from our enemies than our commitment to fairness and the rule of law, but the bill signed today is an historic break because it turns Guantanamo Bay and other U.S. facilities into legal no-man's-lands," said ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero."
"The Catskill Game Farm in Upstate NY has closed it's doors after 73 years of business. This has always been a shady operation, and on THIS Wednesday (10/18), the animals who live there- rhinos, zebras, various exotic birds, monkeys, lemurs, deer, guinea pigs- will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This means canned hunts, roadside "zoos", slaughterhouses, and other horrors.
These beautiful animals, some of which are on the endangered species list, have sacrificed enough for the sake of human entertainment. A dedicated group of animal welfare activists is doing what they can to try to buy some of the animals at auction. It seems like a futile effort (1 rhino can get up to $60,000), but they can try to save some animals, and that's better than none. If they succeed, they will need to secure legitimate housing for these animals.
Three things you can do:
1. Donate money to help buy animals.
2. Notify Coalition for Catskill Game Farm Animals of any sanctuaries you know of that can accept more animals (get in touch with CfCGFA first, to coordinate)
3. REPOST THIS MESSAGE!

Yo, we're gonna go sign up at Loprinzi's gym around the corner from us tomorrow. The more people sign up at once the cheaper it gets. Anybody else down to join the most old-school gym in the world? Get in touch pronto or miss the cheap boat.
So, just reminding you about Saturday's upcoming benefit movie night. Wanna help? Print out a couple of
flyers and put 'em where folks can see them. Thanks.
"All across Africa, India and parts of Southeast Asia, from within and around whatever patches and corridors of their natural habitat remain, elephants have been striking out, destroying villages and crops, attacking and killing human beings. In fact, these attacks have become so commonplace that a new statistical category, known as Human-Elephant Conflict, or H.E.C., was created by elephant researchers in the mid-1990’s to monitor the problem."
We got a bunch of Nicole Georges calendars in for 2007! They're so fucking great. Silk-screened covers, and the theme is "animal friends," so you can imagine it's pretty cute through and through.

"Bartholf, the former president of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, shared observations from his trips to Hudson Valley Foie Gras, the country's largest foie gras farm, which he said slaughters 7,000 ducks a week. He called the birds' living conditions 'extremely comfortable' and said videos presented to the City Council's Health Committee of waterfowl in distress did not reflect what he had seen.
'These birds are not frightened,' he said."

Closing up early tonight at 6 to go rock out at Pirate's Tavern.
"We have received word that Andy is eating fairly well and receiving our letters.
It is important that we continue to write and show support during this difficult time.
please remember that all mail is read by the authorities, must have a complete name and return address, and cannot be decorated with stickers, gel pens, etc."
Come to Pirate's Tavern tonight. Between 7 and 11. Come eat and write some support letters. Bring pen, paper, envelope, and stamps if you can spare some. Please?
Also, take a minute and maybe read up on interests of those you're gonna write to.
Check the profiles and pick a few new penpals.
"'The problem was that it was registered in Antigua, and when Antigua found out that we were intending to purchase the vessel, they informed us that they would not allow us to sail as a registered yacht,' Captain Watson said."

Who's coming to an official "vegan hardcore" show tonight with me (Chad)? Liberty Hall. Heading over after the store closes. Will I be the oldest person there? Come and find out!
"It is a fact that the
prophet for animal rights is the philosopher Peter Singer – an adamant Jewish atheist who popularized the view of equal rights for humans and animals; which in turn gave rise to the recent attack on Jewish practice of animal slaughter. "
Is it really a fact? Our prophet? Man, religion is whacky.
Dear Ham Tube junkies, your fix is here. Also, fake chicken nuggets and fish and oyster sauce.
Wheee! Craigslist! Thanks Ben.

"While some food safety experts are unfairly bashing organic farmers and their reliance on manure for fertilizer, the real culprit behind E. coli outbreaks is the industrial beef and cattle industry. First, certified organic farmers are prohibited from using raw manure for 90 days before harvest of food for humans. Second, most organic farmers compost their manure, which kills most E. coli."

I found this whilst looking for a picture of tater tots. San Antonio represent!
Where: Pirate's Tavern
When: Oct 12th, probably 7 til whenever

What else: Hanging out. Shooting the shit. Everybody giving me a reach-around for my BD.

So, we found out last night our landlord is selling the house we live in. Shitballs. Very bummed about this.
Anybody have any leads on a place for rent in SE? Maybe? Small is ok. We gots a dog. More about location.

"Activists will demonstrate Thursday at 9am in front of the federal building at 450 Golden Gate, in support of Ariana Huemer, an animal liberation activist subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury at 9:30am that day. Huemer along with at least ten other animal liberation activists were subpoenaed last year to appear before a similar grand jury."
Nice new mints came in today too.
Also just got in big 4" round Level 5 stickers. And round black Food Fight stickers too. So that's nice...
Just got bags of Halloween chocolates. Grab some while they're around.

Andy Stepanian is the first of the SHAC7 to get to jail. He's there now. Drop him a line pretty please. It means a lot.
Check out Giancarlo. He did the artwork for our
skate deck. He rules.
So just learned that Pirate's Tavern has changed it's hours for now. They are now opening at 5pm every day. Closing at 11:30 during the week and on Sundays. Closing at 1:30am Friday/Saturdays. So there.
We know we posted before about Greenies and dogs choking on them. So, I guess the Greenies people have formulated a new recipe to break down better, and they're definitely not vegan (not sure if they ever were before but know a lot of vegans feed them to their dogs). Among a million other ingredients: gelatin and natural poultry flavor. Check it.
Check out Andy Stepanian (SHAC7) and Andrew Erba (SHAC attorney) on Democracy Now.

Carpool? Maybe? How far of a drive is that anyway?
Got the fancy/stinky cheese back. Mozzarella, cheddar w/chives, hickory smoked, blue, and gouda.
AND,
speaking of cheese...
Sunday, October 01, 2006
Looks like more of that crazy expensive Scottish cheese should be here soon! Keep your fingers crossed.
Don't forget this SHAC7 benefit tonight. See you there?
So... it passed. Unanimously. Might be another chance to call those folks you called before and tell them they've lost your future vote.
