Darius Fulmer is the first of the SHAC7 defendants to come home. Good to have you back Dari. Congrats.
Hey, we have a few of these left with our "classic" address. Want one for a bit cheaper than normal?
Terror and Donuts!
Hey dudes and dudettes. 2 important chunks of info to shoot your way.
First, please try and make it out to the super cool event we have put together for Thursday, Oct 4th. Two hot-shot out of town speakers brought together to make you think about stuff. Peter Young and Will Potter. 7pm at Clinton Street Theater. $5 suggested donation will go to activist legal support. Read here for the official press release and more details. Also, there is a rumor that after the talk (around 9pm) we'll be screening the classic tale of government repression, Smokey and The Bandit. Oh, and if you want to be a pal, you can download and print out a flyer for us and post it somewhere proper.
Second, DONUT TIME AGAIN!. We'll be getting variety dozens of Mighty-O donuts delivered on Friday, October 5th. Who wants in?
Variety dozens include:
3 Cinnamon Sugar - Vanilla Cake Donut w/ Cinnamon & Sugar
3 Cuckoo for Coconut - Vanilla Cake Donut w/ Chocolate Icing & Coconut
3 Pumpkin - Pumpkin Spiced Cake Donut w/ Pumpkin Glaze
3 Lots O' Chocolate - Chocolate Cake Donut w/ Chocolate Icing
The cost is $15.00 a box. All vegan, all organic, super good.
To reserve, YOU MUST EMAIL US (INFO@FOODFIGHTGROCERY.COM) BY WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3RD by 10AM. TELL US HOW MANY BOXES, YOUR NAME AND NUMBER.
Then be here with $15, Friday, Ocbober 5th in the afternoon to pick up your donuts (check our site or call to make sure the exact delivery time).
We love you with all stupid little hearts.

"You're taking the 'safety' part of 'safety razor' too literally, grandma. Cut the strings and soar. Let's hit it. Let's roll. This is our chance to make razor history. Let's dream big. All you have to do is say that five blades can happen, and it will happen. If you aren't on board, then fuck you. And if you're on the board, then fuck you and your father. Hey, if I'm the only one who'll take risks, I'm sure as hell happy to hog all the glory when the five-blade razor becomes the shaving tool for the U.S. of 'this is how we shave now' A."
I know blogging another Onion article is the easy thing to do, but... whatever. This made my morning.
"They want to cultivate as large a deer population as possible so that the bowhunters can come in and hunt all they want,'' he said."

Uh oh.
"The legal woes of former NFL superstar quarterback Michael Vick took an unexpected Canadian twist today as the country's biggest financial institution, the Royal Bank of Canada revealed in court documents it's suing the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback for more than US$2.3 million."
"The Hammerskin Nation, a neo-Nazi skinhead organization, aims to attract hundreds of hardcore racists to the group's twentieth-anniversary celebration, to be held October 5 - 7 of this year in the greater Portland area. A coalition of Northwest anti-racists has coordinated three days of community responses to the Hammerskin gathering."
Andy.
"Meet Andy. He's black, eight weeks old, vaccinated, de-wormed. He loves dogs and other cats (he's grown up with two dogs and six cats), and enjoys playing hide-and-seek. He also needs a loving home: Can you provide one? Contact Connie at (503) 249-9996 ext. 3 or (360) 666-1578 or connie@idausa.org if you think so. A small adoption fee will be charged."
"Allison Lance will place her life on the line for children and dolphins in Japan. In an effort to protect both children and dolphins, Lance begins a hunger strike today in the heart of Tokyo to bring attention to a Japanese national crime and scandal. This American woman has travelled to Japan to mark World Dolphin Day by launching a personal protest against the killing of tens of thousands of defenseless dolphins that are in turn being fed to innocent Japanese school children despite the dangerously high levels of mercury in the dolphin meat."
Good luck everybody. If you guys know our pal Danielle who hangs out here ALL the time, she's over there helping to keep things under control and deal with the press and other organizational stuff. She rules.
What's the fuss about? Pass
this video around.
Also, Portland IDA will be at Pioneer Courthouse Square (corner of Yamhill and Broadway) from noon to 2:00 pm. Getting petitions signed to give to the Japanese Embassy. Lend a hand if you can.
I wonder if the activists checked to see if the rabbit's real name was "Bone-Char-Refined Sugar Bunny"? People are so slack...

More good watching on the YouTube. Something to make you think, which isn't a bad thing sometimes.
Dance, Monkies, Dance
Uh oh. Half of our home cooked dinners are basically just tater tots and gravy. Gulp...

"Growing up in New York City, Daniel McGowan saw first-hand how pollution fogged the air and fouled the beaches in some of the city’s poorest communities, setting him on a lifelong path of environmental and social justice. But how he ended up drenched in gasoline and setting fire to Oregon’s Jefferson Poplar Farms in 2001 and was later targeted as a “domestic terrorist” is the story of someone who cared too much and didn’t know what else to do."
Congrats Kevin! Fuck You Schumachers!
Congrats to Kevin for being the last activist aquitted in the Schumacher Furs case. And big fat thanks to
Jami for being such a badass and donating her time to get that stupid case thrown out. High-5. You rule.
"Two activists from Philadelphia have been charged with acts of sabotage against HLS (Huntingdon Life Sciences) targets in New Jersey. One of the two activists, Nick Cooney, faces a mandatory minimum of 3 years if convicted. Funds are needed to provide competent legal defense. Please do what you can to help these dedicated activists avoid prison. "
Nick Cooney is a good guy who's done tons and tons of effective work in the Philly area. The guy behind Hugs for Puppies. How about everybody who reads this PayPal $20 (or whatever, you know you can sacrifice a wee bit) to his defense fund? It'd make a huge difference.
So... lets do it, ok?

"According to media reports, as many as 6,000 mink were released from cages early Saturday at a fur farm near Harcourt, a town on the east coast of Newfoundland.
The Harcourt Mink Farm (located 1 kilometre east of Ryders Brook Bridge, off of Route 232, on Trinity Bay) is owned by Jorn Mogensen, a Danish mink farmer who operates several fur farms and related businesses in the area."

Last Sunday Funday coming up!
So we decided that the last Sunday Funday potluck is going to be on Sept. 30. Be there or be hungry. And let's go ballzout.
An email from a customer. Passing on the info...
"Hi, did you know that La Sirenita the Taqueria at 2817 N.E. Alberta has a vegetarian menu, however the beans in all of the dishes have lard in them. This info is not offered anywhere on the menu. The only reason I found out was because I asked for the vegetarian beans on a certain dish and was told the beans weren't actually vegetarian. I told the woman who took my order that beans with lard are not vegetarian. She said the owner won't change the beans or the menu. I know there are tons of people who think they are eating veggie burritos, etc. and obviously are being lied to. How can I get the word out?"

Actually...
Actually, both of our freezer are out. Lost ALL or our frozen product. It must be an electrical problem, not the freezers. Awesome.
Why us?
Came in to work this morning to find our less than one year old freezer broken. All the ice cream melted, the rest of the stuff in there is probably lost too. Fucking life...

So, we've decided to make the Peter Young / Will Potter event on Oct 4th a fundraiser for the Activist Legal Fund. Check out the link, it's rad. And, not sure, but we have the Clinton Street Theater from 7-11pm, maybe we can screen something good like
Red Dawn after the talk? Maybe?
Hey, you, wanna read an update from Josh Harper? Well, here you go...
Geez. Life is full of wonder and beauty and there is hope for the world, right?
"Honeybees make excellent detectors because they are inexpensive, quick to train (a few minutes per bee) and have extremely low limits of detection (odours can be detected to parts per trillion levels). Our prototype instrument is a black box to the outside world and does not require an expert handler. Future detectors will be capable of screening multiple substances by holding a range of bees trained to different chemicals."

"Nationally recognized political activist and author, Craig Rosebraugh, is scheduled to give a public lecture at 7:00pm on Friday, September 14 at Laughing Horse Books (12 NE 10th Ave). Rosebraugh is best known for his role as the former national spokesperson for the radical Earth Liberation Front (ELF). "
"Since the jail stopped bringing Eric vegan meals, commissary was his only opportunity, however limited, to get a few more dietary essentials than what he pulls off his trays. Now the only food Eric will be receiving is the bread and fruit that he can pull from the trays they bring him. This blatant attack on Eric's health on the eve of his trial is an outrageous attempt to put his right to due process in jeopardy. Please act now - call the jail and demand that they begin feeding him vegan meals - again."
Ooooh, looks cool. You know you want one. All the kids are getting them. Come on, do it...
"'The Makah Tribal Council denounces the actions of those who took it on themselves to hunt a whale without the authority of the Makah Tribal Council or the Makah Whaling Commission.'"

Hi all. So, I (Emiko) volunteer at Pawsitively Pit Bull, and it's a great organization who does great work. They just updated their donation wish list, and I though I'd reach out to you all, hoping some of you might have some of these items you don't need and want to donate. Please bring by donations anytime during store hours (unless it's one of the bigger items, we might have to work something else out), and we'll love you forever. So will the pretty pits.

"Oswell said a preliminary report said the whale was shot with a .50-caliber machine gun."
Damn. Just got an awesome belt by the fine folks at HELD here in Portland. Reused materials, super burly. And snaps so you can put whatever belt you want on there. Wheee! Order one or ten.
So, we reduced the Tree Huggin Treats in our online store too. For a little while. BUY BUY BUY!
So, not that this is useful, but Monday we'll have these back from the printer. Just think, if we only sell like 20,000 we could maybe pay for the electrical on our buildout!
We're getting this design on grocery tote bags too, big ones made out of recycled plastic bottles. They'll be here in early October. Thanks a ton to Chris at neckdeep.net for designing these for us. He rules.
Friday, September 07, 2007
Geez. We just got our first estimate on what it's gonna cost to do the electrical stuff in our new space. Kinda crapping our pants right now. Be warned out there, we're gonna be trying to come up with some crafty ways to get you to come shop with us and spend your money.
Any ideas on Food Fight branded product we could make that people would actually NEED? Like maybe a coffee travel mug thing? Food Fight condoms? Food Fight dental floss? Any ideas appreciated. Bless your hearts.
Through the weekend we're selling the ultimate...Sheese...for only $8! And Tree Huggin' Treats are only $2! Priced to sell. We're like Standard TV & Appliance and shit.

Peter Young + Will Potter = Terror
So, this is gonna be good. We're shipping in

"I am writing from Mexi-Snax tortilla chips. Earlier this year your site and many of your readers contacted us because they were upset that one of our top selling items, Mexi-Snax 14 oz Pico de Gallo tortilla chips, had whey it its spice recipe. As promised, we have reformulated this product and it no longer contains whey and is now once again Vegan. Could you please pass the word on to your readers that Mexi-Snax Pico de Gallo 14 oz Tortilla Chips are once again Vegan!

The Big Announcement! aka We're Having a Baby!
Sorry. For those of you who couldn't make it to the party, here's the big announcement. And, no, we're not having a baby. Well, not a human one.
The new baby is actually a new location! Yep. We're moving. Expanding. Doubling in size. Adding a small produce and bulk section. Adding a HOT DOG STEAMER and a NACHO CHEESE PUMP!
And....
We'll be sharing our new building with (drum roll) Scapegoat Tattoo, Herbivore Magazine & Clothing, and... SweetPea Bakery! Portland will finally have a legit vegan mini-mall. Also, in the building will be Seven Star Collective, an acupuncture clinic, that is partially vegan-owned, that has pledged to run itself as a vegan business. So, nothing sketchy to worry about in their herbal pharmacy thing.
Where? At the NE corner of 12th and SE Stark. When? It depends. We're all at the mercy of contractors, but we guess most of us will be open by the first of November. SweetPea has a lot more work to do than the rest of us, so it might be the beginning of the year before you can sit down in Portland's first vegan bakery. Be patient.
Ok. That's that. Feel free to shoot us ideas for new products to carry or whatever.
xoxo
The Management
Yay! Go Team Spain! Shut 'em down!
Thanks Ben. Good job documenting the mayem. Anybody else have a grip of photos or video, please burn us a CD. Pretty please?
Sunday, September 02, 2007
We'd like to wish a Happy 4th birthday to us and 2nd birthday to Scapegoat. Congrats on surviving everybody!
Signed, The Management.
ps. Come hang out today and enjoy the festivities.
