Saturday 4-25 Event for World Week For Animals In Laboratories
In solidarity with the countless millions of animals who continue to suffer in laboratories throughout the world, there will be a demonstration and outreach event at the OHSU clinic at SE 39th and Division.
Meet at 12:00 (noon) on Saturday (4-25-09) at the sidewalk outside the clinic. We will have signs and literature available to educate visitors to the clinic, as well as traffic on Division.
Please come out to support ending the cruel, wasteful, and unscientific practice of vivisection.
OHSU performs these experiments on thousands of animals. Dogs, cats, mice, sheep, birds, primates and other animals all suffer an unnatural life and death in confinement behind the walls of OHSU.
For more information on OHSU's animal testing, please see: ohsucruelty.com

Now on our webstore we have some refillable steel water bottles. Making these was a response to us no longer carrying bottled water. With the weather getting nicer and demand for bottle water increasing we wanted to at least give another option. As always you can refill your bottle in the store or if you want to buy a bottle we will throw in your first fill up for free. Check out a couple of reasons for the choice.

"The Iowa Supreme Court says the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making it the third state where gay marriage is legal."
"A group of monkeys escaped from their cages Friday at an Oregon Health & Science University campus, leading OHSU to warn the public to steer clear of the primates.
The escape occurred when a caretaker cleaned an outdoor cage that housed nine monkeys, said Jim Newman, an OHSU spokesman.
"One of our cage cleaners accidentally left a lock off a cage," Newman said. "The cage was closed; however, the animals were able to slide the door open and get out."
Of the nine monkeys that escaped, Newman said four monkeys were quickly captured and another was caught by Friday night. As of 9 a.m. Saturday, three of the four remaining monkeys were confirmed to be on campus, according to OHSU. The fourth and final monkey is believed to be with the group, but had not been spotted, an OHSU spokesman said."

"It started with a simple one-line e-mail from a Yale researcher I had hoped to talk to: “I’m sorry, but given the
recent PETA attacks on campus, I don’t feel comfortable talking about my research in a newspaper.” I had heard of PETA, short for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, but I knew very little of their actions, and as far as the relationship between PETA and researchers, I had never before stopped to think about it."
"A New England farm that supplies thousands of eggs to grocery stores in Massachusetts was raided Wednesday on charges it kept chickens in cages with rotting corpses."
"At Brown University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and other research centers, new efforts to build complex living "microtissues" from cultured cells represent some of the most promising progress toward reducing the need for laboratory creatures."

"We talked to Jordan last night and he told us he has only received one letter from someone outside of Utah and only two letters from people he didn't know.
We know writing letters can seem like a big, daunting task. What do you talk about? What do you say? But it really doesn't matter that much. You could ramble on at length about something you find interesting, and it would still give Jordan some entertainment and support. We keep telling him about all of the support he's getting from people all over the country, but he can't see bulletins on myspace in there. You have to write him a letter and let him know.
So please, please pleeeeeeeeeeease take ten minutes out of your day today and write Jordan a letter.

"The animal rights activist said he plans to donate the $500 to a fund to help a fellow activist being jailed for contempt of court. Jordan Halliday was taken into U.S. marshal's custody this month after he refused to testify before a federal grand jury presumably investigating a series of attacks on local mink ranches. Two other men, William "BJ" Viehl and Alex Hall, have been indicted in connection with mink farm attacks in South Jordan and Hyrum.
"I am truly glad that the university realized their mistake in my case," Beckham said in his statement."
